Race For The Golden Boot

World Cup 2018

Here are the leading contenders for the Golden Boot which is awarded to the leading goal scorer at the World Cup:

[World Cup BETS]

Edinson Cavani (Uruguay)

Opponents: Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt.

Edinson Cavani has scored 23 goals in 20 appearances so far this season. He’s on fire. With 40 goals in 98 caps he’s proven he can do it for his country, too. Uruguay have a strong front line so Cavani has a very good chance.

Antoine Griezmann (France)

Opponents: Australia, Peru, Denmark.

Antoine Griezmann may have got his season off to a slow start but you can’t discount Euro 2016’s top scorer. The Atletico Madrid striker scored six goals as France finished runners up. Also had a strong finish to the season finishing second with Atletico Madrid.

Gabriel Jesus (Brazil)

Opponents: Switzerland, Costa Rica, Serbia.

Gabriel Jesus has scored 10 goals for Manchester City so far this season, and has seven in 13 caps for Brazil. He finished the season on a high scoring in added time against Southampton which helped Man city become record breakers by obtaining 100 points in the league.

Harry Kane (England)

Opponents: Belgium, Tunisia, Panama.

If England stand any chance of getting to the latter stages of the competition then they will need this guy firing on all cylinders. He’s done it in the Premier League, now it’s time to do it on the biggest stage of all. Finished the season well but not the top goal scorer as Mo Salah won that accolade.

Romelu Lukaku (Belgium)

Opponents: England, Panama, Tunisia.

Romelu Lukaku may not have scored a lot of goals for Manchester United this season he does however have perfect nine goals in nine games for Belgium this year. He’ll certainly fancy himself. Especially with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and hazard supplying him with the ammo.

Lionel Messi (Argentina)

Opponents: Iceland, Croatia, Nigeria.

After losing out in extra-time four years ago, Lionel Messi will be desperate to get his hands on the trophy. He’ll certainly be doing and scoring all he can. Argentina have such a strong squad but can he be the 1st man since Maradona to lead Argentina to world cup glory?

Thomas Muller (Germany)

Opponents: Mexico, Sweden, South Korea.

Winner of the World Cup Golden Boot in 2010 and runner-up in 2014. It doesn’t matter how he’s performing in the league, there’s just something about Thomas Muller and World Cups. Germany have one of the strongest squads at the Euros and with the likes of Sane supplying the Ammo Muller will certainly fancy is chances.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

Opponents: Spain, Morocco, Iran.

How fitting would it be of Cristiano Ronaldo to follow up Portugal’s Euro 2016 success with a World Cup win in what could be his last tournament complete with a Golden Boot. Portugal have a quality side with some good young talent and with Ronaldo at the peak of his career he will feel it is his time

Timo Werner (Germany)

Opponents: Mexico, Sweden and South Korea.

The RB Leipzig striker finished as the Confederations Cup top scorer with four goals. He’ll be looking to follow that up by achieving the same feat at the World Cup. Again in a really strong German side playing along side the likes of Sane and Muller Werner could not only be a world cup winner but also a golden boot winner

Neymar

Opponents: Switzerland, Costa Rica, Serbia.

Surely the world’s most expensive player has a chance of winning the World Cup’s Golden Boot? He had a great campaign for PSG scoring freely in the league a broken bone in his foot brought his season to an early end but if he has recovered in time expect him to reform the deadly partnership with His fellow country man Jesus.
