Leeds Super Casino

Another Super casino opens to make it 3 out of a potential 8 large licence casinos granted in the 2005 gaming act. The super casino based in Leeds owned and operated by Global Gaming Ventures. The process started back in January 2012 and originally 5 operators placed bids to open the new casino. The final decision to give the large casino licence was in May 2013 so after what seems a momentous wait will Leeds be able to sustain such a large gambling venue

Andrew Herd, Chief Executive of Global Gaming Ventures said, “This is a unique venue on a grand scale unlike anything seen before in the north of England and we are delighted to be unveiling our name, our look and our first employees. It’s not just the scale, location and stylishness that makes the venue distinctive, what’s also different is that, unlike most casinos in the north of England, guests will be able to simply walk in as you would any other leisure venue and enjoy a meal, a drink, watch the big game and relax.”

The Leeds Super casino will be situated next to the new developments of Victoria Gate to give it a massive potential in foot fall to sustain the super casino.

ABOUT VICTORIA GATE

Victoria Gate is an exciting addition to the vibrant shopping scene in Leeds. Delivering John Lewis’s first store in the city, the first phase will capture the heritage of the Victoria Quarter and offer a range of high quality and designer brands.

The detailed designs for phase one include three main buildings:

  • A flagship John Lewis store, with a striking facade drawing on Leeds’ textile heritage
  • Victoria Gate arcade, with stores, restaurants, cafes and leisure space in an elegantly designed two street arcade linking Victoria Quarter to the John Lewis store
  • A multi-storey car park for up to 800 cars

Alongside regenerating the physical space, the first phase will also deliver up to 1,000 retail and hospitality jobs and 1,000 construction employment opportunities.

Victoria Gate will in total accommodate around 42,000m² of retail and leisure space. The second phase will include additional retail for major high street brands, leisure space, restaurants and a food court, additional parking spaces and a Low Carbon Energy Centre.

Leeds Super Casino will of course need plenty of staff to keep this venue open 24/7, There are plenty of trained staff in the area due to a couple of casino closures over the years. Alea Leeds closed its doors ironically a few months before the Leeds Super Casino licence was issued due to poor attendance,The Grosvenor Casino Merrion way also closed its doors but this was more to do with the landlord not wanting to renew the lease on the building where the Casino was situated. Will the Victoria Gate Casino succeed where other have failed in Leeds.
