Grosvenors New Games Showcase October 2013
Grosvenors New Games Showcase
Was held in the G Coventry on the 17th of October 2013, an event which is now held to promote new games, mainly tables games but this time there were a few electronic products on display. Its nothing like G2E or the ICE show, no this is a much more intimate affair where you get a chance to play the games at your leisure talk to the game developers in person and then fill out a Q/A sheet to give feedback for the most popular games of the night. The Casino was filled with General Managers from many of the Grosvenor Casinos giving their opinion but more importantly there were customers also trying out the games, after all their feedback is paramount as at the end of the day it is these people who really decide if a new game is any good, they spend the money. I was sat at one particular game and an enthusiastic customer who was obviously on a winning streak tried several times to hand cash over to one of the dealers on the trail games as he wanted to gamble, eventually the dealer explained the concept that it was Grosvenors New Games Showcase night and then the customer duly took his money back and left. I guess the old saying that people will gamble on anything is actually true !
Developing a new Popular game is not that easy when you consider that Roulette has been around since the 17th Century and was accepted in society as an upper class activity
The first form of roulette was devised in 18th century France. A century earlier, Blaise Pascal introduced a primitive form of roulette in the 17th century in his search for a perpetual motion machine. The roulette wheel is believed to be a fusion of the English wheel games Roly-Poly, Reiner, Ace of Hearts, and E.O., the Italian board games of Hoca and Biribi, and “Roulette” from an already existing French board game of that name. Grosvenors New Games Showcase The Exhibitors
In no particular order
Mr Casino Games AKA Steven Young had a couple of games on show, I only played the one game which was called 2+1 Multi-Deck Poker. Quite a simple game once the rules were explained. In fact the only decision you had to make really was to cover both the side bets or not so the skill level required is nil.
2+1 Multi-Deck Poker
- Each player must make an ante-bet and an equal call bet. There is then the option to cover 2 side bet, 2-card flush and a suited-trips
- Each player and dealer are dealt 2 personal cards face-down and a community card is dealt face-up
- Each player and the dealer will make the best 3-card poker hand using there two personal cards and the community card
- Dealer compares his 3 card poker hand with each players 3 card poker hand (dealer always qualifies)
- If a player beats the dealer then his ante bet will pay according to the ante win pay-table and his call bet will be paid 1to1
- If the dealer beats the player then the player loses his bets
- If the dealer and player tie then the players bets will push
- Pay tables soon to be available
SHFL AKA Shuffle Master
As you would expect from a big organisation they were there in abundance, from table games to electronic offerings. SHFL has recently been acquired by Bally
Double Draw Poker :
I had quite a few hands on this game and thankfully I wasn’t playing for real money as my luck was abysmal. I did like the fact that you had to actually make some choices in this game so there is an element of skill and judgement. The object of the game is to get two pair or better and you are betting against the paytable and not the dealer.
- Only one deck is used including the jokers (Jokers semi wild)
- Make Equal bets on the Ante and the bonus
- 5 Cards dealt initially
- After viewing your card you have a choice, fold or stay, if you stay you can draw up to 3 cards if you match your ante
- After that you can look at your cards and then match your bet again to opt in to exchange a single card if required
- Winning losing: if you have 2 pairs or better your ante and draw bets pay even money and your bonus bet pays according to the layout
Now this game took me a few more seconds to work out but actually it was very simple and the only decision was to cover the side bets, I must add that the demonstrator of the game was very good, animated and enthusiastic about the game itself. There is also a progressive bet on this game as well so bets galore
You are dealt 7 cards and the idea is just to make a straight with more cards than the dealer, if you have a straight of 3 cards and the dealer has only 2 cards you win, no matter what the value of the cards may be. You can also have a wrap around straight EG K,A,2 that was the little bit that took some getting used to. Pay tables coming soon.
Electronic Gaming, nice bright shiny electronic products designed to attract your customers. Nothing new and groundbreaking on display, however the Fusion terminal does look appealing and the footprint is nice and compact. It is also compatible with SAS and TITO enabling you to integrate into the system you have today or of course connect it to the SHFL system. They also have podiums (Roulette, Baccarat, Sic Bo) dedicated to one game without the traditional layouts associated with the games. These are solely designed with the purpose of connecting to remote electronic gaming terminals. The layouts are removed so the dealer can focus on the game in front of them thus speeding up the games per hour to the terminals which in turn theoretically should increase revenue. (Aspers Stratford have a dedicated Podium 2 x wheels 1 x card shoe installed by TCS JohnHuxley)
A new game from TCS JohnHuxley based on the ever popular game of roulette with a twist. The wheel has an inner ring to the wheel which is designed to spin the opposite direction from the outer wheel. When the inner wheel finally comes to a stop (from the inertia of the outer wheel) the inner wheel and outer wheel lock in position. The Inner wheel has 8 symbols, 2 gold dragon symbols (300-1) and 6 silver symbols (100-1) To place bets on the Dragon Roulette there is a separate race track layout, The winning formula is a number lined up with a dragon symbol
There were many more games suppliers in attendance but with so many people in attendance it was difficult to get an in depth view of each game and their producers. We will be covering some of the games in more depth in time. If you are a game developer and would like YOUR GAME featured please contact us and send your details you never know who might see it and decide its the game of the future.
