Brazil Are Tipped To Win The World Cup

World Cup 2018

Only Brazil and Germany have won the World Cup out of their own continent and if results go to form the best teams from South America and Europe will contest the final on July 15th. With Italy absent for the first time since 1958 the two most successful nations in World Cup history are the first and second favourites in outright betting. Brazil just have that extra dimension to win the World Cup for the sixth time.

This year’s tournament is being played in Russia which was a controversial choice just as Qatar in four years. Merely on sporting grounds these nations should not be staging the biggest sporting event in the world. The host nation should have a genuine chance of winning the tournament and only one qualifier is below Russia in the FIFA world rankings. Their defence is inexperienced and the forwards are average.

There have been 21 World Cups and only one host has not progressed beyond the first stage, South Africa in 2010. A tournament loses something when the host nation is eliminated but since 1966 only three nations have won the World Cup at home. There is a lack of quality up front for Russia so they must be solid at the back. The hosts can beat Saudi Arabia in the opening match but will struggle to beat Egypt and Uruguay. The defence could struggle to cope with Mo Salah and Luis Suarez.

England are going to win every World Cup before the tournament begins. An easy qualifying campaign is often followed by decent efforts in pre-tournament friendlies. However, the team is then racked with fear and a poor start leads to elimination by a decent team in the knockout stages. A last 16 match against Poland or Senegal should be winnable but then it could be the Germans in the quarter-finals. Past history suggests how that will pan out but the country hopes Harry Kane will be scoring.

France have some significant absentees but their manager Didier Deschamps has a chance of joining Franz Beckenbauer as the only coaches to win the trophy having captained a winning side. The 1998 world champions made steady progression to the final of Euro 2016 in their own country but were beaten by Portugal. The squad is older and wiser and in Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezemann they have world class talent. France are projected to meet Brazil in the last four but could get eliminated.

Belgium are the enigma of world football and its time for the golden generation to deliver when it matters most. They are at number three in the standings but only reached the last eight in the most recent World Cup and Euros. Ten of the 23 man squad play in the Premier League and several of those are at their peak. Eden Hazard and Kevin de Bruyne are no longer youngsters but a possible meeting with Brazil could see Belgium fall short again.

Brazil could not cope with the weight of expectations in their own back yard four years ago but it can all come right this time and Brazil are tipped to win the 2018 World Cup.
